Hello everybody,
I am interested to know of a good review article, preferably in a
journal, which discusses the relevant pharmacokinetic parameter of
different antibiotics with regard to their effect. To be more specific,
the article should address what parameter, e.g. AUC/MIC, or time above
a certain concentration, is the most relevant PK parameter for a
certain type of compounds.
There are many reviews on the matter published but I am unable to find
one that specifically addresses this issue.
Thanks,
Toufigh Gordi

I really like this one.
Gunderson BW, Ross GH, Ibrahim KH, Rotschafer JC. What do we really know
about antibiotic pharmacodynamics? Pharmacotherapy 2001;21:302S-318S.

Hi,
Although you have a preference for journal articles, I find the
book "Antimicrobial Pharmacodynamics in Theory and Clinical Practice"
(2002),
edited by C. Nightingale, T. Marakawa, and P. Ambrose (Marcel Dekker,
New York)
an excelent text book for such purpose. The introductory chapter, by
William
Craig, may have what you are looking for, and if not, the following
chapters
are very specific for the different classes of drugs that you may have
interest. You can also look at: William A. Craig,
Pharmacokinetic/Pharmacodynamic Parameters: Rationale for Antibacterial
Dosing
of Mice and Men, 1998; Clin Infect Dis, 26: 1-12. It is basically the
introductory chapter of the book I mentioned.
Hope this helps.

I recommend 'antimicrobial pharmacodynamics in theory and
clinical practice' by Charles Nightingale, Takeo Murakawa and Paul
Ambroso, 2002, an excellent book with good review on PD of different ABX
classes. I doubt that a journal article could give you a specific
answer for a topic that requires more pages than a book.
