Dear Justin,
A good paper in this regards is  from article by
Morris et al in Int j. Pharm 1994, 105, 209-217.
He has proposed multi Tier approach to screen optimal
physical form. Some of the imp properties to study are
-
Humidity/ temperature depedent change  in crystal
form, hygroscopicity,Pka and its effect in absorption
and stability, Effect of pH on solubility , etc..

The article might help u in solving your problem. It
will be my pleasure to discuss with u in more details
about preformulation challenges .
