Dear all,
I want to test a small molecule with limited water solubility (225
µg/mL) chronically in mice (2-4 week). Until now, we tried a PEG400
solution in ALZET pumps but the compound precipitates in some animals
afterwards. So I urgently need alternative formulations. As a Medicinal
Chemist I'm not that familar with formulations and though I need some
help. I was thinking about Solutol 15 (30% in water or PBS buffer).
Does someone has experience with this kind of formulation? But I'm also
looking for different recepies.
Another problem is to find a suitable provider of solutol. At the
moment, BASF Germany, the manufacturer, seems not to be able to provide
me with a free sample. I only new a small quantity (10 mL).
Thanks a lot
Barbara

Dear Barbara,
You can choose any other solvent/water where solubility can be
increased by adding surfactant withn accaptable cmc level.

Dear Barbara,
What you can use depends on how much you will give since solvents have
their own toxicity. Propylene glycol is a good bet if your compound
is alcohol soluble. DMSO is rather more toxic so limited. Ethanol
is also rather toxic so best avoided.
