Dear Group,Back to the Top
I have been using Micromass quattro LC (Waters) for quantitation of
small molecules in the drug discovery and development. Now I have come
to a stage where we need to increase the throughput very much say over
300 samples a day with overnight.
Do you think I could manage with Micromass?
Which instrument has the best performance for this high throughput and
the reasons.
I am very much appreciate to your imput and thanks in advance for your
response.
Regards
Lourdes
More than the brand of the instrument, it is the chromatography andBack to the Top
ovrlapping of chromatographic cycle which matters most. Mostly all
recent
models from various suppliers have this kind of technology.
Dear LourdesBack to the Top
We routinely use both Micromass and Sciex LC-MS-MS and both are robust
for throughput.

I think most can do the job although I haven't used Micromass orBack to the Top
Finnigan in
a some time. We've went with the Sciex primarily because we know the
instrument well and can help each other then when we have problems. The
main thing in my mind is to have a k' of at least 5-7 (RT of 2.5-3
minutes
running a 2 mm column at 0.4-0.5 mL/min) and switch the junk the first
two
minutes to waste. Keeps the MS source clean using only protein precip
cleanup. That is also why we use the Aria multiplex HPLC system (4
HPLCs on
the front) on the front end to handle scheduling as people either run
across
4 systems at a time or 2 people use 2 systems each overnight and all go
to
the same MS.
