Hello.
Is anyone aware of any company which sells perfusion systems
specifically designed for the rat brain?

Hello,
I use for in situ brain perfusion in rat and mouse a Havard Apparatus
PHD 2000 pump (http://www.harvardapparatus.com). Otherwise, CMA can
supply precision pump designed for microdialysis (http://
www.microdialysis.se/).

Hi Anand to my knowledge, there is no pump specific for brain
perfusions. It is a norm in the brain perfusion population to use
Harvard Pumps (different model numbers). However you can use two
pumps or pumps with two different plungers to suit your purpose. The
points for consideration during brain perfusion apart from the
surgical technique and experimental design are if the temperature of
the perfusate is maintained, if the perfusate have air bubbles or
particulate matter, pH of perfusate and flow pressure is accurate.
All of these can be controlled through in house design e.g. inline
filters, two way or three way valves, in line pressure monitors etc.
Anyway getting back to the question I do not think that there are
special pumps manufactured solely for brain perfusion.
Also regarding your liquid scintillation question, there is a
reference which is
Peng, T. 1977.
Sample Preparation in Liquid Scintillation Counting, Amersham
Corporation,
Arlington Heights, IL.
The methanol you are using is making your scintillant more favourable
to dissolve aqueous specimens. You do not seem to have a scintillator
in your cocktail. There are a number of commercially available
solubilizing agents and scintillation fluids ofcourse they have to be
used in the correct combination i.e. if your solubilizing agent is aq
then you ave to select an aq scintillant (e.g. scintiverse). Hope
this helps.

Dear Anand Gururajan,
Do you mean continuous perfusion system in to the brain in
this case - CMA\Microdialysis and Instech Laboratories, Inc and
Harvard apparatus are selling those components to do the infusion in
to the rat brain.
Thanking you and Regards
