Hi,
Dear all,
I want to know more about poultry pharmacology
especially on their pharmacokinetic characteristics
and variations. Published literatures in journals may
be more accessable for me.
I would be grateful if anybody help me in this regard.
Thanks in advance

Dear Rassouli
We work in PK of antimicrobials in poultry. There are a number of
differences between poultry and other species. If you like, you can
contact me to my email and we can start discussing these differences
(I can also give you some references, for specific subjects).
However, the important point is to know what kind of drugs are you
studying in poultry and what administration routes (and methods for
administration) are you using. There are interesting variations in
the metabolic capacity of the GIT to metabolized specific molecules,
not only as a reflection of the presence of specific enzymes or
transport systems but also the type of bacterial flora present.
I will be waiting your message!
Best regards
Fabiana

Another little oddity about poultry pharmacology was a steroidal
anaesthetic
called Althesin produced by Glaxo 30 years ago. It was a derivative of
progesterone since that causes somnolence if given iv to humans in large
enough doses. It was inactive in avians, including poultry but
potent as an
anaesthetic in all other species.
