Does anyone have information on a highly bound drug such as ibuprofen
(or other) displacing paroxetine and metoprolol (both highly bound)
which results in inhibition of paroxetine metabolism by metoprolol
causing very high concetrations of paroxetine leading to "serotonin
syndrome"?
Thanks - dave

Paroxetine does inhibit metoprolol metabolism (5-8 fold
increase,Hemeryck A, Lefebvre RA, De Vriendt C and Belpaire FM
(2000)). Paroxetine affects metoprolol pharmacokinetics and
pharmacodynamics in healthy volunteers. Clin Pharmacol Ther 67:
283-291. In addition, a case could be made for a pharmacodynamic
interaction between paroxetine and metoprolol--there are multiple
reports of using betablockers to augment antidepressant activity.
