Greetings PharmPK members
After a few months of back and forth I have my first COMPLETE (but never finished) iBook
on the Apple bookstore. "Basic Pharmacokinetics". It covers the content from my three
credit course at the University of Oklahoma and includes much of the interactivity that
was available on the course website. There are screen shots and a five chapter free sample
available from iTunes. If you see more than one version it is the one released 04 May
2012. The free Truncated version is the first four Chapters.

Contructive criticism welcome. I plan to add more interactivity over the summer with a
more compelete glossary. Hopefully the iBook 'system' will allow free updates. Some of the
interactives will be consolidated when I work out a good solution.
Enjoy, David

Hello PharmPK members
Version 1.0 of Basic Pharmacokinetics is now on 50 Apple iBookstores
(including France and New Zealand ;-), released sometime late this
afternoon. This is a modest upgrade to the original version. The biggest
fix (I hope) is that the widgets (interactive graphs) in the sample will
work properly. Somehow the 'old' sample was really old (older than the
full version) and the widget elements needed double taps instead of
single taps to work. (Not really a good example of the interactive
elements in this book) The development environment is 'interesting'.
Apple now includes a versioning facility with iBooks. The current
version 1.0 is not fully part of this system. If you have already bought
the original version you should be able to delete it and re-download the
new version. I'm guessing the next update version will show up as an
automatic upgrade/download similar to updating apps. I discovered the
problem with the sample while trying it out on an iPad mini at the local
Apple store and quickly submitted this newer version, two weeks ago. It
is now online.
I am busy working on the next full version. I've revised most of the
interactive widgets so that they remember whether you prefer kel/V OR
CL/V. A curious process using localStorage. I'm also revising the
figures to provide a more uniform graph format. I hope to submit this
upgrade in the next week or so. My next Basic Pharmacokinetics class
starts in January.
A month or so ago I submitted Pharmacy Math - Part 1 and Part 2. This is
another course that I have been 'teaching' at the University of Oklahoma.

These books were published as version 1.0 early in November. There are
free samples of each book for review. I had to split them into two books
because it seems 150 widgets was too much for one ;-) These books are
meant to be practice facilities for students of Pharmacy Math. I plan to
revisit these books, consolidating the widgets and adding video
tutorials among other elements hopefully before late spring (May-Jun
2013) for the (US) Fall semester. It may be possible to publish this
effort as one book.
As some may have noticed I have another book, Boomer Manual, which may
be useful for general purpose (non pop pk) PK modeling.
Most recently I thought that it might be useful to provide an electronic
book for the iPad including the PharmPK archives. I have been providing a CD
with this and other material but think an iBook (and possibly pdf)
version might be just as useful if not more so. Comments on this
endeavor would be welcome. I will start by putting together the early
discussions.
I hope you can explore these offerings and consider them for
recommendations to your students and colleagues. Search for 'David
Bourne' on the iBookstore. These books require an iPad with the latest
version of iBooks.
Thank you, David Bourne
