Presently I am working on Method development of Tetrabenazine and its active metabolite, HTBZ. As
per OGD guidance, the analyte to be measured is Tetrabenazine and its active metabolite, HTBZ in
plasma using achiral assay. HTBZ (Tetra hydrobenazine) is in alpha and beta forms, I need to know
whether to use the racemic standard of HTBZ or to use alpha and beta standards separately for
analysis since its an achiral assay.
Thank you

Hello Kumar,
As the plasma samples will be obtained after a dose of racemic tetrabenazine you should be measuring
the racemic tetrabenazine and HTBZ using a "achiral method" rather than chiral method. If the dose
is individual enantiomer than you will be using a chiral method with pure enantiomers i.e. in your
case alpha and beta standards.
I hope this clarifies.
