Could anybody suggest a comprehensive, modern, not-too-expensive
Pharmaceutical Technology/Biopharmaceutics textbook suitable for Pharmacy
students? My (Italian) students ask for such a book, to implement their
old-fashioned Italian textbook.
Many anticipated thanks,
M.Fabrizio Saettone

Dear Dr. Saettone
Several educators have writen textbooks that show how to do PBPK modeling
using our product ACSL. Here are several. For information on articles you
can use our web site's search capability at
http://www.mga.com/html/library/library.html. I suggest you use the
keyword Physio and click on the Partial Match box. This will give you a
lengthy list of articles we can send you on this topic. To order an article,
click on its name, go to the bottom of the screen, and click the request
button. The articles are free.
For textbooks, the following come to mind.
Dr. Rideout of the University of Wisconsin wrote a book called Mathematical
and Computer Modeling of Physiological Systems. For more information on how
to get this book please contact Dr Rideout (email address is:
Vince81C.-at-.aol.com.)
My company is also working with Dr. Pelekis of the University of Montreal,
Canada to create a textbook and associated software models to demonstrate
how to do toxicological PBPK modelling. We would be interested in getting
your thoughts on this. Dr Pelekis's email address is
pelekism.-a-.ERE.UMontreal.CA.
In addition to these two sources, Colorado State University offers a summer
class each year on PBPK called Physiologically-Based
Pharmacokinetic/Pharmacodynamic Modeling and Risk Assessment. Dr Mel
Andersen, Harvey Clewell, and Dr. Ray Yang are the instructors. Dr Yang can
be reached at the Center for Environmental Toxicology and Technology,
Colorado State Univ., Foolhills Campus, Fort Collins, CO 80523-1680. These
gentlemen may have some more recommendations.
If your emphasis is PBPK modeling for drug development, Georgetown
University Medical Center developed a tool with MGA called ACSL BioMed that
helps you model clinical drug trials. We have a manual that describes how
to approach this topic that may be helpful to your students. For more
information in Europe, please contact Dr. Ali Goucem at ali.aaa.radata.demon.co.uk.
I hope this is helpful
Regards
Mike
