Colleagues,
The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) is the leading
organization in promoting Pharmaceutical Sciences and would like to
introduce to the students of your school the numerous fascinating and
rewarding careers in the pharmaceutical industry and academia.
Scientific disciplines assimilated in pharmacy curricula uniquely prepare
the pharmacy student for postgraduate education in the Pharmaceutical
Sciences. Drug discovery and design is based on the application of
chemistry and biology. Drug delivery through application of physical
sciences leads to optimal treatment approaches. Pharmacology, including
pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics is almost solely a component of
pharmacy curricula. The advent of the Doctor of Pharmacy degree as the
entry-level degree has focused the student on the clinical application of
pharmaceutical information through clinical sciences. Further training in
graduate school or residencies, and/or fellowships may focus on these and
other areas in the Pharmaceutical Sciences including drug analysis or
pharmacoeconomics and regulatory affairs.
Are there pharmacy students at your School or College that appear well
suited for a career in pharmaceutical sciences? Are the individual
students aware of their potential? AAPS has prepared a brochure to
highlight the potential of a career in the Pharmaceutical Sciences. The
brochure can help a student and/or faculty member explore the
possibilities of a career in the pharmaceutical sciences.
We encourage you to make this information available to students, to make
them aware of the exciting possibilities. For inquiries about careers in
the Pharmaceutical Sciences and to receive brochures, please contact the
AAPS Director of Scientific Affairs at 703-548-3000, or via e-mail at
science.at.aaps.org. Also, you can view the on-line brochure at

On behalf of the Education Committee of AAPS, we thank you for supporting
the future of the Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Sincerely,
David F. Kisor, Pharm.D.
