DEAR Dr. YATI:
Generally phenobarbitone by i.p route at 100 mg/kg in Wistar rats for
4 days is sufficient to induce liver enzymes.

Enzyme induction in the rat occurs rapidly and using wistar rats I found
that 80 mg/kg intraperitoneally for 3 days was sufficient, as was
40mg/kg twice daily. The oral dose though is close to the maximum
tolerated dose. As you can see enzyme induction occurs rapidly which
may have a bearing on previous discussions about speed of onset.
Best wishes
