I am creating an pharmacokinetic model for warfarin and I am using the
well stirred venous equilibrium model for hepatic clearance. The
warfarin clearance is plasma clearance. Does anyone know of a reference
for plasma flow to the liver?

Hello Dr.Gannu,
Human physiology textbooks should be a good source for estimates of
hepatic blood flow. Guyton's Textbook of Medical Physiology lists the
hepatic blood flow as 29% of cardiac output, or 1450 ml/min. This is comprised
of 1100 ml/min from the portal vein and 350 ml/min from the hepatic artery.
The test also indicates that hepatic blood flow can be measured using
indocyanine green, a dye that is removed only by hepatic metabolism:
hepatic blood flow = rate dye excretion (mg/min)/A-V difference Dye (mg/ml)
(ml/min)
The text references can be examined for more detailed accounts of hepatic
blood flow. Also, Gibaldi & Perrier's Pharmacokinetics has values for liver
blood flow in rats with references.

Dear Mr. Gannu,
Blood flow to the liver in human adults is about 1.5 L/min. Hope this will
help.
