Does Kinetica use VBA as the macro language or does it use a proprietory
language? If is it compatable with VB eg can I control Kinetica via OLE
Automation?

Kinetica uses a proprietary Basic scripting language which is subset of VBA
(called Kinetica Basic). This VBA subset is used because it has a smaller
footprint than the full blown version and because it needed to be integrated
closely with the Kinetica API. This subset is only limited by the available
VBA syntax that is supported, therefore a good knowledge of VBA and the
Kinetica API are sufficient to create standard and advanced macros. The
language fundamentals are quite broad and include OLE automation (the OLE
technology is used in several places within the Kinetica object itself).
InnaPhase offer basic and advanced training courses on the use of the
Kinetica Basic language because the language details are not standard
offerings through the technical support service. Please contact me if you
require further information (xwang.-a-.innaphase.com).
