I can not fully agree that linearizations of nonlinear model "deserve to be
sent to the museum". We were one of the early proponents for using
nonlinear regression for the statistical assessment of these models.
However, the various linearizations are still very useful and often
sensitive for the graphical identification of the models. They are part of
good exploratory data analyses.
