Question to the Group: I am studying Clonazepam and in particular the
pertinent blood plasma levels. It is hard to find consistency because
Clonazepam is not a monitored medication, and some studies say that
there is no relationship between the serum plasma level and the side
effects experienced by the patient. So my question is in two parts:
any references on blood plasma levels, particularly for a single dose of
4mg? Any references on the relationship between the level and side
effects? Finally, any personal observations? Thank you very much.

Dear Matt Lehrer,
We very rarely measure clonazepam blood concentrations in epileptic
patients. Because tolerance develops in many patients, it's difficult to
identify a clear relationship of efficacy with blood levels. We use a
reference range of approximately 20-60 micrograms/liter, but always
advise to closely monitor clinical symptons. For referece values and TDM
guidelines for antiepileptic drugs, please see this reference
publication

monitoring - Patsalos et al - Epilepsia 2008
Cheers,
Rob

I heard that the blood serum level of clonazepam is not relevant for the
treatment of the patient (10-20ng/ml) and that only the toxic range (80
to 100 ng/mg) is relevant to, I presume, confirming toxicity. This
seems odd. So what does the 10-20 level mean? Any thoughts or writings
you might recommend? Thank you.
