Hi, Group,
Can anyone point me to drug-drug interaction case(s)/publication(s) where the absorption of an oral
agent A is affected by the GI tox caused by agent B – GI tox such as disruption of the GI lining,
manifested in abdominal pain, diarrhea or weigh loss?
Thanks and have a good weekend!

I believe that this manuscript might serve as an example of a drug absorption interaction due to
toxicity of an initially administered agent.

Hi Group,
Here is some information that I found out.
"Chemotherapy drugs may reduce the plasma concentrations of oral quinolone
antibiotics. The proposed mechanism is decreased quinolone absorption
secondary to alteration of intestinal mucosa by cancer chemotherapy."
from http://www.drugs.com
And two example papers are:
1. J Antimicrob Chemother. 1990 May;25(5):837-42.
Reduced absorption of oral ciprofloxacin after chemotherapy for
haematological malignancy.
2. J Antimicrob Chemother. 1993 Jul;32(1):117-22.
Absorption of oral ofloxacin after cytotoxic chemotherapy for
haematological malignancy.
