ANSWER:
If I remember anatomy correctly, the main difference between the
buccal and gastrointestinal absorption is that whatever gets absorbed
from the GI - first goes with the portal blood to the liver
(DETOXIFICATION!).
On the other hand, whatever is adsorbed from the buccal cavity, goes
directly to the systemic circulation, target organs, etc., and only
then it can be detoxified (or bio-activated!) by the liver. So, it
usually NOT just the absorption efficiency, it is the "different
plumbing" that makes a difference.
